OOC: Game Design Syllabus
May. 14th, 2012 05:01 pmNote: Knowledge of programming is not a requirement for this class, but knowledge of classical myth, project planning and storytelling would be helpful. Not required, just... helpful. This syllabus is to give a general idea on what's been covered and in approximately what order the class will be covering it. The video links are for those who are truly curious and because I'm a total EC fangirl. I love these videos, but don't feel like I'm giving you homework.
Also - I have no idea what games are readily available to play, so if games listed here aren't available, we can pretend something similar is? Or that theoretical games are used in the discussions in place of actual games. Anything that's an MMO doesn't exist for this class because while Flynn lived in something very MMO-like, he's never played one. Someone will have to talk to him about what they're like. (Maybe there's a teach the teacher class in there somewhere...)
( And away we go... )
At the end of the semester, each student will do a game pitch with one fully-realized level. This is all on paper and in presentation - again, no programming required.
